Under the name post-acne, we mean defects that remain on the skin after suffering acne, usually due to improper mechanical stress. Simply put, if you have an acne that doctors call acne, and trying to get rid of vile black spots, white acne, nodules, pustules, you try to squeeze them out instead of going to the doctor, then you have every chance to get post-acne.
In addition, post-acne can also occur with long-term acne, the late start of its treatment, improper therapy, and severe and deep inflammation of the skin.
Age is also a risk factor: in young people, skin regenerates quickly without any consequences. The older the person, the greater the likelihood that he will develop post-acne.
What does post-acne look like?
Acne can occur in several ways.
Enlarged pores. Due to the increased action of the sebaceous glands, the pores expand, sebum accumulates in them, to which dust, dead skin flakes, and cosmetic residues are added. As a result, the skin becomes uneven, new acne may occur, inflammation may develop.
Expanded capillaries, red-blue spots. With the independent removal of blackheads, blood circulation in this area may be impaired, which will cause the expansion of capillaries, the appearance of bluish spots. The same can happen after a purulent pimple opens.
Scarring. Often, after squeezing acne and blackheads, scars remain on the skin: they can be depressed, having the appearance of pits on the skin, or convex, towering above the skin, white or bluish.
Skin color changes. In the affected areas, the skin may lose color due to the destruction of the cells that produce the coloring pigment melanin.
How to get rid of post-acne
Due to the fact that there are several forms of post-acne, skin defects can be present individually or in combination, their severity can also be different, treatment is selected strictly individually.
Enlarged pores. They can become clogged with grease and dirt, therefore, to remove the contents from the pores, they use various options for facial cleansing – manual cleaning, ultrasonic, vacuum, etc.
Retinol-based drugs that suppress the work of the sebaceous glands are used to reduce pores. In addition, these tools help to reduce the thickness of the stratum corneum and smooth the skin.
Smooth the skin, reduce the sebaceous glands and eliminate vein blockage, fruit acids and salicylic acid.
Mesotherapy with vitamins is also used.
The treatment is long and, depending on the chosen method, the severity of defects can reach 10 months.
Red spots. To narrow the capillaries, improve tissue nutrition, ointments based on camphor, nicotinic acid, menthol are used. Inside take vasodilators.
Superficial or median chemical peeling is recommended.
A stable result occurs after 3-4 months of treatment.
Scarring. This defect, unfortunately, can be treated with great difficulty. Various procedures are used to combat scars: laser and mechanical (dermabrasion) resurfacing of the skin, collagen injections, transplantation of adipose tissue, acid peels. Sometimes it is necessary to resort to surgical excision of the scar.
The specific method of treatment is chosen individually, depending on the type and severity of the scar, sometimes several methods are combined.
Post-acne treatment is a long and expensive process. It is best to prevent the development of this acne complication. If rashes, black spots, pustules appear on the face, it is most correct to consult a good doctor and follow all his recommendations in the future.
