Coronavirus COVID-19
Coronavirus is an acute viral disease that is transmitted by airborne droplets. It is important to clarify that coronaviruses are a whole family with about 40 different virus stamps. COVID-19, which caused an epidemic at the end of last year, is one of these stamps. It affects the upper respiratory tract, leading to pneumonia.

Coronavirus in China – Timeline

Coronavirus appeared on the news in early January. But few people know what really began his story in China.

The doctor who was not believed
34-year-old Dr. Li Wenliang worked at a Wuhan clinic when he suspected symptoms of a serious illness in one of his patients. On December 30, 2019, he recorded signs of a SARS virus, which is part of the coronavirus subfamily. The doctor sounded the alarm and notified his colleagues, former classmates from the medical institute, about the disease, as reported by The Global Times. Through messengers, Dr. Lee wanted to disseminate information about a possible epidemic as soon as possible.

The local police responded to a message that raised panic among users. Doctors Wenliang and his associates were summoned for questioning, where they were forced to sign papers banning the further dissemination of information about the disease. It is still not clear why it was in the hands of the police that the power was to prevent doctors who, as you might expect, are more knowledgeable in medicine than the police. One way or another, the doctors signed the papers and the dissemination of information ceased.

Dr. Lee returned to work at his clinic. Already in January, the country’s authorities confirmed information about an epidemic of coronavirus of unknown origin in China. Then the doctor continued to work in contact with infected COVID-19. Soon, Lee developed the first symptoms: cough and fever. Less than a week after confirmation of the coronavirus epidemic in China, the doctor himself was hospitalized in the same hospital where he worked.

On February 7, after a second cardiac arrest, Dr. Li Wenliang passed away. Users of social networks called the doctor a hero who, perhaps, could have prevented an epidemic of this magnitude. The tragedy severely criticized the local police. According to Chinese media, the young doctor left a pregnant wife.

Epidemic onset
They talked about strange pneumonia in the PRC media at the end of December last year. The disease appeared in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province.

On January 7, Chinese health confirmed that an outbreak of pneumonia in the country caused a new stamp of coronavirus, which was temporarily called 2019-nCoV. In February, WHO registered the disease as COVID-19. The city of Wuhan became the epicenter of the coronavirus, where quarantine was soon introduced. To this day, the city is closed. All flights and trains canceled. Air traffic and trains from China are suspended in Russia.

Coronavirus Source
To this day, the exact source of infection has not been identified. It is believed that coronavirus came to a person from wild animals. Huanan, a large urban animal and seafood market, came under suspicion. Here you could buy not just a chicken or a pig, but snakes, bats and other non-domestic animals.

Rospotrebnadzor said that COVID-19 may have appeared as a result of the hybridization of bat coronavirus and another unknown virus.

Statistics of patients
According to Coronavirus Monitor, 2020 on February 28, the incidence statistics in the world looks like this:

infected: 83,716 people
killed: 2861 people
recovered: 36,649 people
Statistics change every day. To see the current epidemiological situation, take a look at the dynamic map of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. It shows how many cases of infection are currently recorded in each state.

According to the Chinese publication SCMP, immediately after China, South Korea is the second most infected country. Here, 2337 cases of the disease were recorded, of which 13 were fatal. Italy became the third country in terms of the number of diseases. A total of 655 coronavirus cases and 17 dead were confirmed.

More than in Italy, infected were detected on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which went on a trip from Japan in late January. 705 cases of coronavirus were recorded here. Among the passengers were 24 Russians.
